SolidWorks World 2010 Day 2: General Session
The big news out of general session today was (obviously) James Cameron talking to the 5000 attendees. He talked about starting out as a tool-and-die guy when he was in college, and how he and his team are constantly pushing the limits of design technology to build everything from cutting-edge stereoscopic cameras to a submersible vehicle that he will personally pilot to the bottom of the Marianas Trench, the lowest known point on Earth. He also discussed how he’s working with NASA to design a camera system that will be used on a future nuclear-powered Mars lander. It was interesting to hear the person responsible for the two highest-grossing movies of all time discuss how FEA is to him, especially on his deep-sea projects.
In other news, the SolidWorks certification team rolled out a new advanced level of certification. The Certified SolidWorks Expert certification goes above and beyond the CSWP to cover many of the advanced features in SolidWorks. You can learn more on the SolidWorks website, and I also had a chance to sit down with certification specialist Mike Puckett to talk about the test.
